For 27 years, hockey legend and New York Rangers Hall of Famer, Rod Gilbert, championed Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-NY) and hosted our annual “Skate with the Greats” event.  The highlight of the event included ice-skating alongside his fellow New York Rangers hockey legends and alumni, providing a fun night for our families and supporters of the House while raising support for our mission to provide a temporary home and support services for families and children who are battling pediatric cancer.

In 2019, the House celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Skate with the Greats event. Rod, a co-founder of this event, was awarded the Child’s Champion Award, in recognition of his 25th year of participating in this event and raising awareness and millions of dollars for children with cancer. In 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic did not stop Rod. He continued to rally his fellow New York Rangers Alumni Greats to hold the first ever Virtual Skate with the Greats because he knew how important it was to continue this longstanding tradition to help our kids and their families.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Judy, an RMH-NY Board Member, his family and friends. We will miss you Rod.

In lieu of flowers, Rod’s family has kindly requested to donate to the Garden of Dreams Foundation.
