Greek Division
Ronald McDonald House New York’s Greek Division provides support services for families from Greece and Cyprus, as well as for Greek-Americans staying in New York City while battling cancer.
A specialized support system for families from Greece and Cyprus.
In existence for more than 40 years, Ronald McDonald House New York’s Greek Division provides support services for families from Greece and Cyprus, as well as for Greek-Americans staying in New York City while battling cancer. The support of the local Greek community within the tri-state area has been an integral part of the Division’s ability to provide the financial resources, as well as awareness of the devastating effects of cancer.
In March of 2018, Spiros Maliagros, President of TIG Advisors, was named Chairman of the House’s Greek Division. Mr. Maliagros succeeds Michael Bapis, who had served as Chairman since 2014. As Chairman, Mr. Maliagros will lead the Greek Division’s strategy in the fulfillment of its mission.
Local members of the Greek community help to support the organization via the annual “Walk of Love” walk-a-thon, held in May. The Greek Division also holds its annual Christmas party in December at the New York Athletic Club.

The Greek Division throughout the years has been a vital lifeline to families traveling from all over the world to find the critical treatment for their children at New York City hospitals. The Greek Community has embraced the House’s families of all ethnicities as their own, helping them with emotional support and providing affordable housing while they stay in New York City.

DonateTheir dream: to support children and families suffering through the trials of pediatric cancer treatment.
President Emerita Vivian Harris met the late Niki Sideris through Mrs. Sideris’ volunteer work as a translator for European families receiving medical treatment through New York Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In little time, a bond was formed. In 1988, Mrs. Sideris was named Chairman of the Greek Division of Ronald McDonald House New York.
Mrs. Sideris’ introduction of the House and its many services to Greek and Cyprian families abroad has had a profound effect on the lives of those children and families desperate for hope. To date, more than 10,000 Greek families have received some form of assistance through the Greek Division. During her tenure, her accomplishments include raising money to help fund the construction of our current location on East 73rd Street.
2009 marked the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Greek Division of Ronald McDonald House New York and over 20 years as the Division’s Chairman. In 2008, both Niki Sideris and Mrs. Harris became inaugural recipients of the Ronald McDonald House New York Hope Awards, an honor which recognizes four individuals each year who have gone above and beyond to inspire hope in the lives of children and families battling pediatric cancer.
We all know in our hearts that she wanted her work to continue to grow and advance beyond her earthly days; in that spirit a special committee has been convened to perpetuate her vision.
