The Capes Were Flying and So Were the Cameras: RMH-NY Celebrates National Superhero Day with a Sky-High Surprise

At Ronald McDonald House New York, we’ve always known our kids are superheroes—but on Monday, April 28th, the rest of New York City got the memo too.

In honor of National Superhero Day, four major news outlets showed up to spotlight a day so action-packed it might’ve required its own Marvel cinematic universe (or at least a sequel). From cape-making to skydiving Spidermen, it was the kind of Monday that had more plot twists than a multiverse timeline.

Let’s set the scene: downstairs in the House, our Children’s Enrichment Program hosted a superhero cape-making class—because every hero needs the right gear, and honestly, you can’t save the world in a hoodie. Upstairs (or rather, outside), our Volunteer and Communications teams were coordinating something a little... taller.

Cue the squad from Skyline Access, who rappelled down the actual walls of the House. TWICE. That’s right—not once, but twice, a group of real-life superheroes descended like Gotham’s finest to wave through the windows, high-five the kids, and give “dropping in” a whole new meaning.

The caped crusaders included Batman, Spiderman, Captain America, and other well-loved icons who proved that gravity has nothing on a good cause. These heroes didn’t just walk the walk—they repelled the repel. (Sorry, we had to. It's in the superhero pun code of conduct.)

And the press? They showed up faster than Clark Kent in a phone booth.

Here’s how the media covered our heart-lifting day:

  • 📺 NY1: Last Call

Each outlet captured the joy, awe, and caped camaraderie that filled the House that afternoon. Kids lit up. Staff smiled wide. Even Batman seemed like he was holding back a tear behind the cowl (we won’t tell).

Days like these remind us that superpowers come in all forms: creativity, compassion, courage—and yes, sometimes carabiners.

To everyone who made National Superhero Day a blockbuster hit at Ronald McDonald House New York: thank you for helping our kids feel strong, special, and just a little closer to the clouds.

Stay heroic,
🦸♂️ RMH-NY
