10-year-old cancer survivor hits the ice with former New York Rangers hockey players

MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) —Some former pro hockey players took to the ice Tuesday night to help raise money for kids fighting cancer, in a lesson that goes far beyond skating and playing hockey.

Check out the amazing story created by Lucy Yang at ABC7NY and our special guest of the evening at last night’s Skate With the Greats, 10-year-old Sonya accompanied by her mom and dad and her baby sister, Gabriella.

Sonya and mom, Maria had a moment to tell their story and share all of the amazing ways that Ronald McDonald House New York made their lives easier in a dark moment.

So many New York Ranger greats were there including a very special appearance from Henrik Lundqvist and so many more!

Ronald McDonald House New York is a home away from home that offers compassionate care for children with pediatric illnesses and other life-threatening diseases.

Skate With the Greats is an annual fundraiser that Rod Gilbert started 30 years ago that has raised millions and millions of dollars for the kids and families at Ronald McDonald House New York over the years.
