Happy Wheels Coffee Cart

Volunteer alongside the Happy Wheels Coffee Cart

Designed to support families with hospitalized children, the Happy Wheels Carts stroll the hospital hallways and provide comfort as parents focus on their children. Stocked with items for children and their families, volunteers navigate the hospitality cart through the pediatric unit of the hospitals and distribute complimentary coffee, tea, snacks, coloring books, toiletries and other items. Besides the immediate needs these small tokens can meet, they provide simple reminders to the families that Ronald McDonald House New York supports them during a challenging time.

Our current Happy Wheels Coffee Cart opened in 2015 at the Hospital for Special Surgery and operated Monday through Friday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Our second Happy Wheels Coffee Cart is set to "Roll-Out" at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2018 and we are looking for volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering please reach out to our Volunteer Manager, Caitlin Conklin, at cconklin@rmh-newyork.org for more information.

About the Program

When a parent has a child in the hospital, the only topic on their mind is their child’s health. Our Happy Wheels Coffee Cart volunteers offer coffee, healthy snacks and other drinks to parents with children staying at the hospital. In addition, we offer small comforts such as books, toiletries and other comfort items to ease the stress of the parents without them ever leaving their child.

Volunteers Needed!

Individual volunteers will be a familiar face and a wide smile for parents who are at their child’s bedside. While on the pediatric floor of the hospital, volunteers will help reduce the stress of a hospital stay for families going through a difficult time.  The Happy Wheels Coffee Cart program currently takes place at the Hospital for Special Surgery Monday through Friday 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
