Paws and Petals Brings Valentine’s Day Comfort Through Puppies, Roses, and Community on ABC7

The House was filled with warmth and connection during the Paws and Petals Valentine’s Day event, an experience created to provide emotional support and family-centered care for families of pediatric patients.

Led by the volunteer team, the event welcomed several certified therapy dog teams, with three dogs serving as the centerpiece of the celebration. Their calming presence offered comfort, affection, and a sense of normalcy for children and caregivers navigating pediatric cancer and other serious illnesses. Therapy animals play an important role in holistic care, helping reduce stress and support emotional well-being during challenging moments.

A visual highlight of the evening was a large heart crafted entirely from rose petals, generously created by students from Sacred Heart School. The heart became a symbol of compassion and community, drawing families together in a shared moment of joy and photography. Children also enjoyed Valentine’s Day–themed temporary tattoos, adding a lighthearted and creative touch to the evening.

Events like Paws and Petals helps to support and underpin an emotional support and connection that are essential for the families.  These events offer experiences rooted in compassion that reduce health disparities and support families beyond medical care alone.

The event was captured on film and later featured on ABC7, sharing the impact of volunteer-driven care with viewers across New York City.

Thank you Starbright for your commitment to our families and truly making this event come to life.

In honor of National Superhero Day, four major news outlets showed up to spotlight a day so action-packed it might’ve required its own Marvel cinematic universe (or at least a sequel). From cape-making to skydiving Spidermen, it was the kind of Monday that had more plot twists than a multiverse timeline.
