Gary LaBarbera has led the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, local affiliates of 15 national and international unions representing 100,000 workers in New York City since 2009. He has served as President of the New York City Central Labor Council, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He is currently a Vice President in the New York City Central Labor Council, the New York State AFL-CIO, and the New York Building Congress. Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed him to the NYC Exploited Worker Task Force, and he sits on the Regional Economic Development Council. Founder and chairman of the board of the New York City chapter of Helmets to Hardhats, Gary helps place veterans in the construction industry across the five boroughs. He is also President and CEO of the Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, providing apprenticeships to underserved NYC high school students.
