Children who stay at Ronald McDonald House New York have the amazing opportunity to learn about music as part of a special residency with The New York Pops!
The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States, and the only professional symphonic orchestra in New York City that specializes in popular music. Their mission is to foster greater appreciation and awareness of America’s rich musical heritage. They tour throughout the world and give free concerts in New York parks throughout the summer.
The New York Pops have held musical residency at Ronald McDonald House New York since 2008. Under the guidance of Dr. Sherrie Maricle, our resident children get to discover and develop their musical abilities and creative voices. They learn the basic skills and theories of music and hone their vocal and instrumental abilities.
The Music Education program offers lessons on piano, voice, guitar, bass, and drums. Through their weekly classes, regular participants have formed a House Band and Chorus. They even recorded an original album titled "I Will Always Be There." Check out the title track available on iTunes!
The New York Pops have even invited our young residents to perform at their Annual Gala at Carnegie Hall each year.
