Wednesday Night Team Luau
By Megs DiDario, Volunteer Staff Writer
The hula skirts were flowing and there were plenty of leis for all on a beautiful June 27th night, as the kids and families of Ronald McDonald House New York enjoyed a Luau party atop the terrace.
The Luau, organized by Wednesday night volunteer Caitlin McHugh, was a great success, and there was not one empty seat to show for it.
The families participated in a raffle, which included such fun prizes as chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, Hawaiian coffee, and pineapple candles. Caitlin’s Uncle Frank Empeno from Hawaii donated all of the prizes, shipped straight from his home state. Adding further to the Luau ambiance, Caitlin played the ukulele, a guitar-like instrument which originated in Hawaii.
Magician Josh Beckerman was on hand to wow the crowds with his card tricks and mind reading acts. Known as the “Foodie Magician,” Josh especially impressed the families when he had a few volunteers think of their favorite restaurants and was then able to correctly name them.
In the spirit of summer, a southern-style barbeque - fried pickles, mac n’ cheese and all – was provided by the Board of Associates, and served by the Wednesday night team. The Board of Associates generously provides dinner once per month for the families of Ronald McDonald House.
A very special thanks to Caitlin and the Wednesday night team for a great Luau!

Santa and a House Guest
Fourth of July Fireworks
By Megs DiDario, Volunteer Staff Writer
The families of Ronald McDonald House New York, NYPD, and Yonkers Fire Department enjoyed the best seats in the house for the 36th annual Macy’s Fireworks spectacular right along the Hudson River. They were shuttled to the party in true style, as the NYPD provided official bus transportation to and from the private celebration.
The party was set up around 63rd Street, just twenty blocks away from the barges on which the fireworks were set off. Speakers streamed the official soundtrack of the Macy’s fireworks, so all attendees got to enjoy the same music as spectators of the television special on NBC.
In true Fourth of July fashion, the party-goers enjoyed a barbeque that included the classic staples of hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken kebabs and numerous side salads and snacks. Jef Campion and other Ronald McDonald House volunteers and members of the Yonkers Fire Department tirelessly cooked throughout the night to make sure that everyone was well-fed.
A very special thanks to the many volunteers of Ronald McDonald House, the NYPD and the Yonkers Fire Department that helped pull together a very special Fourth of July celebration for the kids and their families.

Local Ramaz Students Throw Carnival
Jordana Tepper, Nina Lindenbaum, and Sarah Issever of Ramaz Middle School organized a carnival in order to raise money for Ronald McDonald House New York.  It took several months of planning to put together this fun event, but the girls worked hard and the carnival was fantastic.
On June 14, 2012, they turned the Ramaz Middle School gym into an exciting carnival with booths such as “pie in the face” and “candy fishing,” an amazing face painter that the children loved, and delicious food including Ramaz’s famous chocolate chip cookies. The attendance to the event was incredible, and the girls raised close to $3,000.
Jordana, Nina, and Sarah designed shirts and charms to sell at the carnival, and all the remaining shirts and charms will be donated to Ronald McDonald House along with the money they raised.
A very special thank you to our three inspiring Ramaz students, Jordana, Nina, and Sarah.
